Blessings

Sorry for the delay!! I felt after my Bible Study today that I should post what I learned, though not all that profound. It is funny because it sort of answers the question below, what is God doing in our lives?

I started reading/studying 1John today, partly because it is short and we only have a few weeks before Fall Bible Studies start so I wanted to start and finish something before then. Also, I was intrigued by the intro in my Bible. It was talking about the Christian life and sin, how they mix and how they shouldn't. So I read verses 1-4 yes only 4 verses but in depth/slow reading is what I'm after here. John was proclaiming what he had heard, seen and "handled"(verified by touch), my Greek lesson for the day. It had been manifested to him and he wanted others to know about Jesus and the fellowship that they could have too.

I came away with a desire to have that kind of excitement for what God is doing in my life, how He is manifesting Himself in my life now. I also felt convicted not to have to go back a year or even 4 months to tell of a blessing or experience I had with Christ. So that leads to my proclaiming list of blessings from yesterday and today. These are not necessarily mountain top experiences but God is in the everyday life and sometimes our quest for the mountain top causes us to miss the road we are currently on.

List of Blessings:
Yesterday - A beautiful day playing outside with my son and working in the yard. Having dinner on the table when hubby got home!!

Today - being free to "cook" playdough with my son and watching his excitement over the end result!! Seeing our baby girl smile and giggle at her big brother!!!!

So there you go, my first official post! I am NOT a writer but I will share from my heart to the best of my ability. Thanks for stopping by!

Question....???

It has been a bit quiet here at the Dutch Treat... as for the Holland House, it is never quiet with Dutch Jr. and now the Dutchess being vocal and active. Thus the quietness here, we have been busy with our new arrival, adjusting to new schedules, less sleep, enjoying the newness of a newborn again and marveling at how a three year old adjusts to his new little sister.

The question mark above, yes it does have meaning. I have a question for you... all two of you that may read this at any given time... what would you like to read about? There is much that goes on with two kids in the house as well as with Dutch Jr. and the Dutchess, so there should be many topics that can be covered.

Also, another question for both of you, why no comments? This is Dutch Treat, you should leave a comment and get this thing rolling.

Oh yeah, Mrs. Dutch will be posting, I promise. She just needs some encouragement and the masses to request her presence!

Until next time...

United 93... Is it too soon?

There is much debate on whether United 93, the movie about 9-11 and the flight that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Was it made and is it being released too soon?

I will be going to see this movie. What about you? Is it too soon?

A New Born Baby's Cry

There is something about a new born baby's cry... communication at it's rawest form. Hearing your child make sounds is amazing, even if it is a cry.

Called Dutch Jr. (3 years old) on the way home yesterday. Asked him how his day was, what he wanted to do when I got home and what his new little sister was doing. He replied "she is sleeping... Dad, did you know that she came out of Mommy's tummy the other day?". Yes, son... I knew that!

The Holland House is thankful for the gifts, emails, calls, visits and meals that our friends and family have given since The Dutchess arrived!

Baseball is here and the Holland House is Excited!

The most important sport in the Holland House...

Ever since the Dutchess and I have been married she has embraced my favorite sport, baseball, and my favorite team, the Houston Astros. The last two years have been a roller coaster ride as we have watch the Astros get past the first round of the playoffs two years ago and make it to the World Series last year.

This year they have decided to do things a little differently and get off to a great start. There are still some questions about this team, however, this House will be rooting the Astros all the way back to the World Series.... we hope!

On to the not so important sport in the H2...

As for the other team in Houston that I follow, the Texans, it has not been so fun to watch the past few years. The first two years were fun, they were an expansion team, we were able to bond with the players and watch come together as a team. Then last year they had the worst record in the league and thus arranged to have the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, which happens to be this Saturday.

Ever since Vince Young performed is stunning performance to lead The University of Texas to a Rose Bowl win and the National Championship, that first pick for the Texans has been a hot topic. I am in favor of drafting Reggie Bush and see if David Carr can be the quarterback we hope for all along. Under Gary Kubiak, I think he can. Needless to say, it will be exciting to see what happens on Saturday. One thing is for certain, the Texans can only get better!!

Just to show that Mrs. Dutch follows the Astros and baseball, I will not type another sports related post until she does...

Until then... Play Ball! Posted by Picasa

Dutch Treat...

Dutch Treat is something that has been on my mind for a while. I have enjoyed reading many great blogs, get annoyed by a ton of others, learn from both. I am not a writer by trade or by pleasure, however, I have been itching to start a blog for quite some time.

So bear with me while I hone my writing skills, play around with blogger and determine where I want to take this adventure.

Oh, by the way, I do not pretend to be all knowing about anything, so it's Dutch Treat, pay your own way with a word or two.
