United 93... Is it too soon?

There is much debate on whether United 93, the movie about 9-11 and the flight that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Was it made and is it being released too soon?

I will be going to see this movie. What about you? Is it too soon?

I don't think I'm ready to see it, not that it is too soon to be released just not the right time for me to see it.

At first, I was pretty irritated by this movie. I thought - "People are just making money off a tragedy and masquerading it as art and homage." I was determined not to see it in the theater. The other day I was listening to a talk radio show and they were discussing this very issue. The host made a couple points worthy of further reflection. I won't get into the long of it, but the jist was that this movie was made with the permission and cooperation of the families of the passengers. The sufferers of this tragedy are not vistims of Hollywood, but rather partners in the director's and producers' efforts to tell this story as honsetly as possible.

The other thing that occurred to me was that all kinds of great movies are made with bad intentions and even by shady dealings. They're still fantastic films. Should I not support great filmmaking simply because I disagree with how or why it was made? This begs the question - do I support bad filmmaking simply because I appreciate why it was made? There are a lot of "faith-based" movies out there that are a disgrace to the art. Should we be supportive of such shotty efforts? I digress - that's neither here nor there and this comment it turning into a post of its own. Sorry Dutch!
